If you asked your teachers, parents or friends to name a comet, then they are very likely to answer with one of the most famous: Halley’s Comet. Astronomers believe that this well-known object has been noticed since 240 BC, however, it made its most famous appearance in 1066 AD just before the Battle of Hastings. If you lived around this time and you saw a comet in the sky, then you are likely to be very scared of it as it appeared without warning and disappeared just as quickly from sight. You, your family and friends would have known very little about such an object, possibly believing that it was sent as a horrible present from the gods. This is exactly how King Harold of Wessex felt about the comet, seeing it as a sign of his defeat before he and his army went into battle with the Normans in Hastings. The most well know place to see this comet is Musse' de la Tapisserie de Bayeux.
On Saturday November 12th me and my family went to skyline drive. We saw many animals like bears, deer, birds, and squirrels! I saw about 6 bears and about 11 deer. This rode was built so people in the east could go to a national park without driving to the west. It is about 950 miles long. the National Park Service NPS and the Families of Flight 93, Inc. have come to terms on a purchase deal for approximately 950 acres that make up the bulk of the former PBS Coals property. The result will be the largest single transfer of private land to the NPS for the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA. My family and I ate at this cool restaurant.
Patrick Henry (May 29, 1736 – June 6, 1799) was an orator and politician who led the movement for independence in Virginia in the 1770s. A Founding Father, he served as the first and sixth post-colonial Governor of Virginia from 1776 to 1779 and subsequently, from 1784 to 1786. Henry led the opposition to the Stamp Act of 1765 and is well remembered for his "Give me Liberty, or give me Death!" speech. Along with Samuel Adams and Thomas Paine, he is remembered as one of the most influential exponents of Republicanism, promoters of the American Revolution and Independence, especially in his denunciations of corruption in government officials and his defense of historic rights. After the Revolution, Henry was a leader of the anti-federalists in Virginia who opposed the United States Constitution, fearing that it endangered the rights of the States, as well as the freedoms of individuals.
Andrea,
ReplyDeleteYou paragraph about Halley's Comet is interesting but you failed to answer the questions that I asked you to answer.
Skyline Drive should be capitalized because it is a proper noun. In the second sentence, you wrote "rode" it should be road. The Drive itself is 105 miles long. Otherwise this paragraph was very interesting.
Your paragraph on Patrick Henry was interesting. However, you need to write the information in you own words, not just want you can copy and paste.
For the sentences with "yes" beginning them, you must put a comma after the word yes. EX: Yes, she is beautiful. I enjoyed reading your sentences.
