Pearl Harbor, Staghorn Coral, and a Christmas Songs

December 7th, 1941 Japan attacks US Naval Base pearl in Hawaii. 2,400 Americans were killed, 21 ships were either sunken or damaged, and 188 aircraft destroyed. This attack officially brought the US into World War II. Japan decided to launch a surprise attack on the US in an attempt to destroy the US naval power. In total, 183 Japanese aircraft took to the air as part of the first wave of attack on Pearl Harbor. Commander Mitsuo Fuchida called out “Tora! Tora! Tora!” which means which means “Tiger! Tiger! Tiger!” which told the Japanese navy that they had caught the Americans by total surprise. At 8:00am, Admiral Husband Kimmel sent out a hurried dispatch to all in the US naval fleet “AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NOT A DRILL”. Battleship row refers to the seven battle ships lined in a row at Pearl Harbor. Battleships in the row were Nevada, Arizona, Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, Oklahoma, and California.

Here are some facts about staghorn coral. No one knows how many kinds of staghorn corals there are. But scientists estimate there may be nearly 400 species. Only scientists can tell coral apart, these corals come in a confusing variety of shapes and colors. A single small reef may have hundreds of Acropora colonies growing on it.

I was supposed to pick a Christmas topic for my blog so I chose.....Christmas songs! Christmas songs are sung all through the year. Some Christmas are Jingle bells, Feliz Navida, we wish you a merry Christmas and many others. My favorite Christmas song is the Chipmunks Christmas song. Christmas songs have gone on for a long time.

  1. Andrea,

You did a good job on this entry. You need to make sure to capitalize proper nouns such as Pearl Harbor and We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Also, you can not start a sentence with a number. You did this in the first paragraph.

Your second paragraph made me ask the question, "What is Acropora?" You might have added this so that the paragraph made a little more sense.

Your word count is 270 words.

    Your score: 23/25
    1pt capitalization
    1pt sentence structure
